What is pediatric osteopathy?

Pediatric osteopathy is a specialization within osteopathy. The focus of pediatric osteopathy is generally on the treatment of babies and toddlers, as well as accompanying them during growth phases.

The course of the pregnancy, the position in the womb and ultimately the type and duration of the birth have a major influence on the further development of the child. The change in the baby’s bodily functions, such as independent breathing or feeding, as well as the subsequent growth, also present the young body with constant challenges.

The holistic approach already plays an important role in osteopathy. This is also the case with pediatric osteopathy. In addition, the age-related characteristics of the growing body should also be taken into account.

For legal reasons, we are not allowed to give any examples of applications for pediatric osteopathy. We would therefore ask you to contact us to clarify together whether osteopathic treatment is appropriate for your baby or child. Billing for pediatric osteopathy is based on the fee schedule for alternative practitioners (GebüH).

What does osteopathic treatment of children look like?

Pediatric osteopathy is a sensitive subject, especially when treating babies and small children. For one thing, they are very sensitive and for another, they are not yet able to express exactly what they are missing. They are therefore dependent on appropriately trained and experienced therapists. The older the children get, the easier it is for them to describe the symptoms themselves. Osteopathic treatment is also available in consultation and cooperation with your pediatrician, family doctor or midwife.

At the beginning of treatment for babies and children, a detailed discussion is always held with the parents in order to investigate the complaints and their possible causes. A preventive check-up is also recommended for babies. Older children are of course included in the conversation, but from a certain age the children and young people are then completely capable of providing information themselves. But here too, parents can provide important additional information.

This is followed by a detailed examination of the baby or child and a diagnosis. Only then is the treatment carried out. Specific osteopathic techniques are then applied using the hands. The baby or child is always considered in its entirety and all structures of the body are included in the treatment. Very gentle techniques are used to help the baby or child achieve improved balance and thus well-being and health.

An osteopathic treatment for babies or children takes between 30 and 50 minutes, whereby the exact course of treatment depends on the individual case.
